A Public Embarrassing Moment

What’s your most embarrassing moment?

Not too long ago at a friends party, I couldn’t answer to this question.

I would rack my mind and not come with one embarrassing moment to save my life.

Of course, no one believed me and I ended up making up a story just to get off the hook.

From that day, it’s like I called upon the embarrassment world to grace my life. I have had so many embarrassing moments since then, I blush just thinking about it.

They have both been public and private, and so embarrassing. I feel like am playing a character in “Worst Week series.“

In a plan to change this trend, I have decided to share in the most public way my most recent embarrassing moment.Hopefully after this, I won’t have to tell an embarrassing story almost everyday.I will spare you the exact details, well am still getting over the shock.

Anyway, I was crossing a very muddy path, the rain in Nairobi is too much.

Placing my foot on a rock that was not a rock. And the next thing I know I was sitting in the mud on a Saturday morning.

Thankfully, a friend helped me after having one of the best laughs of his life.

Did I mention I was on my way to work and literally bumped into so many people I stopped counting?

I still feel like am bathing in embarrassment. My tummy and face is all warm and all.

When Life Takes Your Breath Away

We all came to this world crying.

Our very first cry made everyone around us laugh or even cry with joy.

It’s the miracle of life, when air rushes in the lungs of a new born. And the jolt of the new surroundings sends the baby into a wail that pierces the mother’s heart and melts it forever.

Those few moments of childbirth are utterly special. And as I have been told, women forget the pain of child birth immediately the baby leaves the comforts of their wombs. Wails with discomfort and snuggles upon her bosom for the very first sip of white flowing life giving fluid.

What a beautiful moment, one that definitely takes your breath away.

I am not a mother and I always imagine my unborn babies circling the universe waiting for the opportune moment to rush to my womb.

Maybe they are waiting for me to fall in love with a man they would like to call dad. Maybe, they are waiting until the thought of giving birth doesn’t scare me to death.

Maybe they are moving with the clock of time and will show up when they are ready. I don’t know.

As you may have noticed, I do believe that children choose where they are born. And I highly digress, this is a topic for another day.

Everyday in this life we are met with moments that take our breath away. Sometimes we  go through life so fast that we fail to notice the magic happening all around us.

Life is a miracle freely given to us that should be treasured everyday. Have you ever done something and then wondered to yourself why you had never tried it before?

Or have you ever done something and wondered to yourself why you had even tried to do it? Happens to me all the time. I have made so many mistakes in this life I lost count. And I have also made so many incredible choices my heart just dances with glee.

Thankfully, each dawn carries a promise of a new day that we choose what to fill in it.

As you may know, not all days are the same. Some days you wake up on the wrong side of the bed. And sometimes everything goes your way.

One thing that is however constant is that we are ever in motion. Doing something that affects our lives. Even when we don’t realize it.

Our lives are sprinkled with so many events and nothing that you experience is ever by accident. Actually every person you meet has a message for you and you have a message for them.

And every thing you do is a testament of your most active thoughts. It’s simply amazing how the universe works and how our days on this earth unfold.

From the very first breath you take in the morning. To the last conscious breath you take as you drift to dream land at night.  Never forget to treasure the moments that take your breath away. Those that choke beautiful emotions in your throat and threaten to overwhelm your whole being.

Those beautiful moments are glimpses of heaven on earth.

Is this the perfect age to be born a woman?

To be celebrated, dined, admired and spoilt by our menfolk and loved ones?

Looking through the books of history, it’s clear that women have gone through a long journey. A journey sprinkled with tears, sweat, heartache, laughter and smiles.

At one point in time, a woman never had a voice and was seen as property to the general household. She had no voice of her own. Her work was to be seen and never to be heard. Just like the trophy wife of the 21st century to some extent.

It’s not my wish to go down memory lane and relive the bitter memories that are buried deep in the history of women. They have been explored to great lengths and even though there is much more that needs to be done. It’s so heartwarming to see the world coming to a standstill to celebrate women.

The trail women born in this age are walking through is much smoother because of the women who lived before you. The men in your lives treasure you and treat you well, because of what they have learnt from the men who lived before them.

Time is a great teacher.

A time like this last year, I was a year younger in so many ways. Reading this I can’t believe how much I have changed.

Being a woman is a journey you are called to.

To be a woman, a girl, a sister, a daughter,a girlfriend, a lover, a wife, a mum even  a child. It’s an interesting journey you can’t help but embrace.

Happy international women’s day to women everywhere. As for the men in your lives hope they realize just what a treasure you are.

Tear Kissed Cheeks

Tears rolled carelessly and hung on her eyelashes

Threatening to trickle down to her cheeks
